Susan Christie

Susan Christie - "Rainy Day" [2006]

Folk is not a four letter word, but rain is ... ugh.

Michigan & Smiley + Augustus Pablo + Lutan Fyah

Taped a guest radio show for WFMU last week that should air sometime in November, will post more when I have more details. But for now here's one of the tracks I played on the show ... and it skipped like craaaaazy. It doesn't skip at home, I swear! Just grab this version and mentally insert it into the show if you listen.

Papa Michigan & General Smiley - "One Love Jamdown" [1980]

Augustus Pablo, Rockers Meets King Tubbys in a Fire House (Shanachie 1980)

Augustus Pablo - "Rockers Meet King Tubbys inna Fire House"

Lutan Fyah, Phantom War (Greensleeves 2006)

Lutan Fyah - "Blood Stain"

Pylon

Pylon, Chomp (DB Records 1982)

With the Athens GA hometown and the R.E.M. cover of "Crazy" on Dead Letter Office, I always associated Pylon with jangle-pop, but as the DFA reissue of Gyrate makes clear, they were really more about rhythm -- kin to Athens' other big name, the B-52's, along with Bush Tetras, Gang of Four or A Certain Ratio. Maybe Chomp will get reissued next ... other than a few tracks on Hits I don't think it's ever hit CD.

Pylon - "Yo-Yo"

Pylon - "M-Train"

Began Cekic extended / dub version of Eddie Kendricks' "Girl You Need a Change of Mind" .... with some Cymande "Bra" basslines thrown in at the end.

Free show

Anyone in the nyc area this Saturday the 13th -- free show at Southpaw put on by WFMU, you'll have to get there early but the bill is stacked top to bottom:

Oneida
Simply Saucer (first U.S. show)
Alan Vega
Old Time Relijun

Edit/update/errata: I should have read past the title of The Third Kind youtube, as Sean points out in the comments it's not a track by Simply Saucer but the name of a related band. For the real deal go here here and here. This show was awesome btw.

Oneida - "The Adversary"

Oneida live at the late great Brownie's in 2002 doing a song that later surfaced on Happy New Year .... how have I not seen them live before?! So psyched.

Oneida - "To Seed and Flower"

Simply Saucer - "The Third Kind"

Alan Vega - "Psychopatha"

Old Time Relijun - "Cold Water"
